Wizard Frog Amigurumi

Once upon a time there was a frog. He used to be a human, but he couldn’t remember what he looked like because he had been a frog for so long. The frog who was once a human then learns about magic, who knows he might find a way to turn back into a human. So he was called the Wizard Frog. Although his body is small, he has a big heart and is ready to help anyone in need.

I’m rereading a fantasy novel by Terry Pratchett entitled The Wee Free Man. In the story there is a toad that can talk. The toad doesn’t remember what kind of human he used to be. This toad befriends a witch and helps Tiffany, the little girl who is the main character in this story, to find her missing brother. Maybe that’s where my inspiration came from to make a story about the Wizard Frog.

At first I only made frog amigurumi. But it looks plain with the green color. Then I added a coat and hat. The frog looks very different, he is ready to learn new magic to help others and find ways to help himself.

Notes

Wizard Frog amigurumi is about 11 cm (4.3 in) tall without hat.
I used small ply Balinese cotton yarn (sport yarn) and Tulip hook no. 2 (2 mm).
Its size may vary according to the materials you used.

Materials

– green, black, purple
Fiber fill
Tulip hook no. 2 (2 mm)
8 mm safety eyes
Tapestry needle
Scissors

MR = magic ring
ch = chain
sc = single crochet
inc = sc increase (2 sc in next stitch)
dec = sc decrease (join next 2 sts into 1)

Head

Use green
Round 1: MR, 6 sc (6)
Round 2: *inc* 6 times (12)
Round 3: *1 sc, inc* 6 times (18)
Round 4: *1 sc, inc, 1 sc* 6 times (24)
Round 5: *3 sc, inc* 6 times (30)
Round 6: *2 sc, inc, 2 sc* 6 times (36)
Round 7: *5 sc, inc* 6 times (42)
Round 8-9: sc in each stitch – 2 rounds (42)
Round 10: *dec, 5 sc* 6 times (36)
Round 11: *2 sc, dec, 2 sc* 6 times (30)
Round 12: *dec, 3 sc* 6 times (24)

Fill as you go

Fill the body.
Leave a tail for sewing.

Eyes (make 2)

Use green

Leave a tail for sewing.
Attach safety eyes between Round 4 and 5.

Arms (make 2)

No need to fill the arms.
Leave a tail for sewing.

Legs (make 2)

Use green

Hat

Change to purple

Change to black

Fasten off.

Cape

Use black
Row 1: 19 ch, skip 1 ch, 18 sc (18)
Row 2-10: 1 ch, turn, 18 sc – 9 Row (18)
Change to purple
Row 11: 1 ch, turn, 18 sc (18)
Change to black
Row 12: 1 ch, turn, 18 sc (18)
sc around 3 sides of the cape, add 1 ch in each corner.
Fasten off.
Cut black yarn about 24 cm long and weave in the last Row as a cord.

Attachment

Fill the eyes and sew to the head.
Embroider the mout in Round 8 of the head.
Sew body to the head.

Sew arms in Round 8 of the body.
Sew legs in Round 2 of the body.
Tie the cape around the neck.

Sew hat onto the head if needed.
