Crochet C2C Butterfly Pillow – Free Crochet Pattern
The Crochet C2C Butterfly Pillow is so cute and fun to make. This is a quick pattern to whip up in everyone’s favorite corner-to-corner technique and it uses small amounts of yarn. Make one in stripes, variegated, or in your favorite solid color, it will look beautiful in any color combination. Make both sides the same, or you could make the back look completely different.

Here is a photo shown below of the back. I love the way the final round looks so complicated, but it’s just a slip stitch all the way around!
The yarn is Caron One Pound in five colors: white, hot pink, pink, orange and yellow. The crochet hook is a size H/8 (5.00 mm).

PREP TO SEAM – see photos below
The seaming and edging are done at the same time, along with adding the Poly-Fil stuffing inside the wing.
Notes:
- Bring all the ends to one side of the fabric (which will become the inside or WS).
- Secure the ends by tying the two closest colors together in a knot. (Or you can weave in the ends if you prefer).
- Optional – add stitch markers or pieces of yarn in between Rows 6 & 7 to know where to place your stitches for Round 2. See photo below for placement.
- Fold the fabric in a triangle, with the MC clusters together at the point, with the ends on the inside.
EDGING – see photos below
Notes:
- Crochet through both edges, starting at top corner, proceed to point or MC cluster, then work along other side to opposite top corner. (see photo, Edging Round 1 below).
- Crochet in ch-3 sp of one edge, and either the top of each dc or in the side of dc, on the other piece of fabric.
- Add Poly-Fil stuffing in Round 1.
Main Color: White
Round 1: (Side 1) *3 sc in end of each cluster to MC cluster (18 sc), (Side 2) 3sc in next 3 cls, add stuffing, 3 sc in next 3 cls (18 sc). (36 sc in total). Do not end off yarn.
Notes:
- Starting along the top or widest part of the wing, begin in top corner.
- When working along the top, place sts between clusters of Rows 6 & 7 at stitch markers, see photo below.
Round 2: (Top) ch 3, 5 dc in same st, sk 1 cl, sl st in next ch 3 sp, *[2 tr, 3 dc, 2 tr] in next ch 3 sp, sk 1 cl, sl st in next ch 3 sp*, sl st in next ch 3 sp, sk 1 cl, repeat *- *, end with sk 1 cl, 5 dc in top corner, ch 3, sl st in same sp. Across top = (8 tr, 16 dc, 5 sl st, 2 ch-3), continue around both sides, (Side 1 & Side 2) *sk 2 sts, 3 hdc in next st*, repeat around, sl st to base of beg ch 3. (36 hdc). End off MC.
Before completing Round 3 (below) of Edging, go to Assembly, Seaming Body, and then Finishing.
Blue yarn = 5 dc sts, 2 tr-fans, 5 dc sts
Green yarn = sl sts
ASSEMBLY
Note: The pink & white example, I overlapped the MC clusters. The blue & yellow example, I overlapped Round 2 of the edging (because of the color choices), this is not as sturdy, it is a bit floppy.
Place both wings side by side, overlap part of the MC clusters on top of each other to form the body in the center of the butterfly.
SEAMING BODY
With yarn needle, sew through both pieces, place a running stitch through the stitches, starting at the bottom of the MC cluster, sew towards the head, then go back down again. Weave in yarn.
FINISHING
Notes:
- Sl st around entire butterfly and make the antennas in the last Round 3.
- Begin in bottom right corner of right wing, work in BLO throughout.
Color (A) Hot Pink
Round 3: Sl st in next 5 dc, sl st in each tr-fan st, sk next st, sl st in next st, sk next tr, sl st in next st, sl st in each st to top of body, [ch 5, sl st in 3rd ch from hook, sl st in next 2 chs, sl st in same st] 2 times – to make antennas, sl st in each st around to – and in the tr-fan sts, sk next st, sl st in next st, sk next tr st, sl st in each st to beg sl st.
End off yarn, weave in all ends.
