I am completely mystified on how to begin this pattern! (180-20)have used your patterns before and have never had trouble reading the diagrams but this one has me puzzled! I am left handed which does not help, but I just cannot figure out the actual first 3 rows..I even tried writing out the stitches, but it still does not make sense to me. Is the first row worked vertically or horizontally? Is the second row worked two dcs in a row or one-if one how do you work with 2 chains? thank you!

Dear Mrs Kolar, diagram A.1 is worked a total of 4 times in the round to make a square, ie A.1 is just showing a part of diagram - read more here you will then repeat row 1 (= 3 dc, 4 chains) a total of 4 times, then repeat Row 2 (= 5 dc, 4 chains, 2 dc) 4 times and so on. Happy crocheting!

12.06.2019 - 12:25DROPS Design answered:

Alvast bedankt! Ellen
27.08.2018 - 15:41DROPS Design answered:

I figured out part one and appreciate your response!!! I finished my main square as instructed, finishing on the last round of A.2 and now I’m working on the sides. The diagram for A.3 shows the last round worked to be different (having chain 2’s)... did I do something wrong? Or am I overthinking things? LOL
27.12.2017 - 21:03DROPS Design answered:
Dear Tiffany, diagram A.3 shows the last round worked in A.2, ie the 4-ch-spaces in both corner (beg and end of the side) and the 2-ch-spaces in A.2a/b. Happy crocheting!

After completing A.1, it says “complete A.2a a total of 2 times in width”..... does that mean end off and reattach on sides? Or something else completely??
09.12.2017 - 01:40DROPS Design answered:
Dear Tiffany, it means you continue to crochet on the round, but instead of pattern A.1, you should follow the diagram of A.2. that is broken down to smaller units in 2.a, 2.b, and 2.c. As the piece grows, it is A.2b that gets repeated more. I hope this helps. Happy crocheting!

||||||||||||||||||||||
INFORMATION FOR THE PATTERN: PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.4. CROCHET INFORMATION: The first double crochet at the beginning of each round/row is replaced by 3 chain stitches. Each round finishes with 1 slip stitch in the 3rd chain stitch at the beginning of the round. INCREASE TIP (for sleeves) Increase 1 double crochet by working 2 double crochets in the same double crochet. ---------------------------------------------------------- JACKET: The piece is worked in the round from mid back and outwards as a square, then is worked back and forth on the front pieces. The sleeves are worked back and forth and sewn together to finish. Start with hook SIZE 5.5 mm/US 9 and Big Delight and work pattern in the round according to diagram A.1 a total of 4 times on the round - read CROCHET INFORMATION! When the whole of diagram A.1 has been completed, continue as follows: Work A.2a a total of 2 times in width, A.2b, A.2c, work * A.2a a total of 4 times in width, A.2b, A.2c *, repeat from *-* 2 more times, work A.2a 2 times in width. REMEMBER THE CROCHET GAUGE! When A.2 has been completed in height, repeat the 2 rounds in A.2 as follows: Work A.2a a total of 3 times, A.2b, A.2c, work * A.2a a total of 6 times in width, A.2b, A.2c *, repeat from *-* 2 more times, work A.2a a total of 3 times. Continue to repeat these 2 rounds, for each repetition you work 2 more repeats of A.2a between each corner, i.e. the next repetition is worked as follows: Work A.2a a total of 4 times, A.2b, A.2c, work * A.2a a total of 8 times in width, A.2b, A.2c *, repeat from *-* 2 more times, work A.2a a total of 4 times. Continue in this way until the square measures approx. 38-40-42-44-46-48 x 38-40-42-44-46-48 cm / 15"-15¾"-16½"-17¼"-18"-19" x 15"-15¾"-16½"-17¼"-18"-19" – finish after the last round in A.2. Continue with the pattern as before as far as the first corner, work 2 double crochets, 4 chain stitches and 2 double crochets around the corner, work 24-25-27-28-29-31 loose chain stitches and skip 24-25-27-28-29-31 double crochets for armhole and continue pattern as before as far as, and including, the next 2 corners, work pattern as before until there are 24-25-27-28-29-31 double crochets left before the next corner, work 24-25-27-28-29-31 loose chain stitches and skip 24-25-27-28-29-31 double crochets for armhole, work 2 double crochets, 4 chain stitches and 2 double crochets around the corner-space, continue pattern as before to end of round. Continue with pattern as before to finished length – on the next round, work 24-25-27-28-29-31 double crochets around each armhole. When the square measures approx. 82-84-86-88-90-92 x 82-84-86-88-90-92 cm / 32¼"-33"-33⅞"-34⅝"-35½"-36¼" x 32¼"-33"-33⅞"-34⅝"-35½"-36¼", finish after the last round in A.2. Cut and fasten the strand. FRONT PIECES: The front pieces are worked seperatly and back and forth without increases. Insert 1 marker on the last round worked. THE PIECE IS NOW MEASURED FROM HERE! Start by the cross in the one corner – see sketch, and work as follows: A.3a around the corner, repeat A.3b until there is 1 double crochet left before the next corner-space, work A.3c around the corner. When A.3 has been completed, repeat the last 2 rows in A.3 in height until the piece measures approx. 19-20-21-22-23-24 cm / 7½"-8"-8¼"-8¾"-9"-9½", finish after the last row in the diagram. Cut and fasten the strand. Work the other front piece in the same way. EDGE: Work an edge around the whole jacket as follows: Work 1 double crochet in each double crochet, 3 double crochets around each double crochet row and 4 double crochets around each corner-space. Cut and fasten the strand. SLEEVE: The sleeve is worked back and forth. Work 40-40-42-42-48-48 chain stitches (including 3 chain stitches to turn) with hook SIZE 5.5 mm/US 9 and Big Delight. Turn and work 1 double crochet in the 4th chain stitch from the hook (= 2 double crochets), work 1 double crochet in each of the next 1-1-3-3-4-4 chain stitches, * skip 1 chain stitch, 1 double crochet in each of the next 4 chain stitches *, repeat from *-* to end of row = 31-31-33-33-38-38 double crochets - remember CROCHET INFORMATION. Continue as follows: Work 1 double crochet in each of the first 0-0-1-1-1-1 double crochets, repeat A.4 until there are 1-1-2-2-2-2 double crochets left (= 6-6-6-6-7-7 repeats), work 1 double crochet in each of the last 1-1-2-2-2-2 double crochets. When A.4 has been completed, repeat A.4 in height to finished length. When the piece measures 7 cm / 2¾" in all sizes, increase 1 double crochet in each side - read INCREASE TIP above. Repeat the increase approx. every 6½-5-4½-4-4½-4 cm / 2½"-2"-1¾"-1½"-1¾"-1½" a total of 8-10-11-12-11-12 times = 47-51-55-57-60-62 double crochets. The increased double crochets are continued as double crochets. When the piece measures approx. 55 cm / 21½" in all sizes, finish with a row of double crochets. Cut and fasten the strand. Work another sleeve in the same way. ASSEMBLY: Sew the seams under the sleeves and sew the sleeves into the jacket. |
