A simple yet chic top, perfect for those hot days — the Summer Breeze Crochet Crop Top! If you’d like to know more about how this top came about keep reading or just scroll down and get right to the free pattern.
I can’t believe how quick this year is going, it’s almost August. August means that it’s almost fall, and the cotton yarn turns back to wool. So I’m on a mission to use the majority of the cotton yarn that I overzealously purchased. Because, you know, buying yarn is another hobby in itself. I’ve been dying to crochet something with the Lionbrand Comfy Cotton that’s been in my stash. It is a blend of cotton and polyester, and it’s also a DK weight yarn, which makes the perfect yarn for Summer makes.
This top came about mainly because I wanted to make something while I binge watched Stranger Things 3. As we all know, complicated patterns and Netflix don’t mix, so I knew I had to keep things simple. But simple doesn’t mean ugly, so I did a quick sketch, grabbed my measuring tape, and got to work.
As you may know by now, I’m a sucker for a good crop top (check out the Diamonds in the Back Top). With the heat in mind, I decided to not only make it a crop top, but also slightly oversized. The pattern is designed with about an inch and a half of ease that makes it perfect to throw on over a tank or even a dress!
The Inspiration
When I first ventured into the world of crocheting garments, I have to say, I was intimidated and EXTREMELY overwhelmed. As a plus sized woman, it is difficult to find clothes that fit just right, and it’s even more difficult to find crochet patterns in the larger sizes. Some patterns are either chunky and unflattering, or it’s completely obvious that the designer only “did the math” for the larger sizes, but never actually made one. My goal is to design patterns that not only look good on a small frame, but on everyone! Who says plus size can’t be cute too?
