The downside of being a craft dabbler is that you can amass a lot of different supplies very quickly. From spools of embroidery floss, boxes of beads, and mountains of yarn, I definitely have a lot of craft stuff all over the place. I wanted to come up with a better way of tracking my partial yarn skeins so that I could make better use of them for future projects, and I ended up settling on this spreadsheet.

I am not a good singer. This isn’t false modesty or fishing for compliments, it’s just a fact. My brothers broke the truth to me very early in life, but it hasn’t stopped me from singing along (off-key) to radio jams on car rides or to worship songs at church. Despite my obvious disadvantages to singing, I do still enjoy going to private karaoke rooms with my friends.

When my best friend suggested having a holiday baking date, I was thrilled. We have a rich history of time spent in the kitchen together; from perfecting our favourite cookie recipe to running our mini business in junior high, we have made and eaten many yummy treats. This year, the new recipe to try was inspired by social media, and we wanted to make a ‘pinecone’ brownie.

This was a really fun test-knit for me as Katie invited me to knit one sock toe-up and the other sock cuff- down. It really goes to show how talented Katie is as a designer as she was able to provide two great options for interested knitters. On top of that, the sock has the perfect retro vibes that instantly make me think of staying cozy on cold winter nights.

I always think knitting is so interesting because everyone has their own unique way of doing things. This can result in a terrifying amount of cast-on and cast-off techniques, but they are often fairly similar at the root of it. When I saw this Turkish Cast-on, which is a new-to-me approach, it instantly made me think of a simpler version of Judy’s Magic Cast-on!

After all those weeks spent setting up the loom, it felt like such a dream come true to be able to weave on it! Fern’s vision was to create a checkerboard tea towel inspired by a set that she had seen in a local home goods store, and I was more than happy to follow her lead. If you are as painfully sentimental as me, you have hoarded a lot of old cards and ticket stubs. A friend suggested having a little memento box to store everything in, and while I really liked the idea, I ended up using that as inspiration for a gift instead of making one for myself. I swear I’ll clean up my room someday and make my own keepsake boxes, but until then, it’s a bit of a ‘do as I say, not as I do’ situation when it comes to staying organized.
